Charlotte
Female Beluga Whale
Born July 1, 2009 to Kelowna.
Located in the A/front pool at Arctic Cove.
Charlotte is the largest of the 2009 babies. Her and Mira are very similar. Charlotte's skin is very smooth while Mira's has lots of pores in it. Besides that, the easiest way to tell them apart is the shape of their rostrum: Charlotte has little wrinkles in the middle of her rostrum, while Mira's rostrum is very wide. She has a faint white horizontal scratch on the top right side of her melon. Other than that, she doesn't really have any distinguishable features. At the beginning of the season, she used to have moulting skin around her chin and a patch on her belly, but those have mostly faded away. Her belly is still a bit patchy.
The staff at Marineland wanted to give Charlotte a very Canadian name because she was born on Canada Day. They chose Charlotte, after Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Her mother Kelowna is also named after the city in British Columbia. Charlotte is very close with her mother, she spends a lot of time with her. Something that they do together is that Charlotte will 'sit' on top of her mothers head, almost in reverse calf position. They tend to do this when Charlotte is at the underwater viewing window. Charlotte is very playful and really enjoys playing with toys and with the other babies.
